La Jolla Music Society is today announcing that four acclaimed San Diego classical and chamber-music organizations — Art of Elan, Bach Collegium, Camarada and Mainly Mozart — will become the first resident arts groups in the society’s 56-year history.

Camarada returned to the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park Thursday to present a concert titled by Artistic Director Beth Ross Buckley Luscious: an evening of harmonic indulgence. Five regular Camarada musicians offered a selection of chamber music in approachable styles from the early decades of the 20th Century.

From Bach to John Adams, sonic delights will be served up by both top-notch local musicians and virtuosos, including violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, cellist Alisa Weilerstein and countertenor Reginald Mobley.

One of the virtues of the chamber music collective Camarada is the ease with which a wide variety of performers successfully collaborate with its core players. Thursday’s season-opening Camarada concert at the Mingei International Museum featured marimba virtuoso Michael Jones as guest soloist with Camarada regulars flutist Beth Ross Buckley, violist Travis Maril, cellist Abe Liebhaber, and pianist Dana Burnett.

The San Diego chamber ensemble Camarada brought a lively, audience friendly chamber concert to the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park Thursday. The ensemble’s program featured two works by visiting guest composer Gilad Cohen, who gave a short talk before the concert and introduced his compositions “Post Winter Solstice” and “Dances of Peril.” Princeton educated Cohen is Associate Professor of Music at New Jersey’s Rampo College.

On Saturday, San Diego’s well-established chamber music collective Camarada performed a concert titled Vivaldi’s Magic to a substantial audience at The Conrad in La Jolla. Half of the concert was devoted to works by Vivaldi, and for those of us for whom a little Vivaldi goes a long way, that was a wise decision.
