Conjuring the atmosphere of Parisian cabaret in Barrio Logan on Saturday, Camarada offered its entertaining program From Paris, with Love.

Among this delectable musical banquet, the most exciting selections included instruments, dancers, and singer together.

Now in its 28th season, Camarada is a San Diego-based chamber music organization that celebrates not just the classics but new music and world music that is played in intimate and, even surprising, places.

San Diego’s already lively classical music scene ought to be even more vibrant in 2023.

Thursday at UC San Diego Park & Market in the East Village, the ensemble Camarada presented a concert titled Frida Dreams, a cabaret confection of Mexican and Latin American music that was popular during Kahlo’s heyday.

Camarada opened its 28th season Thursday at Balboa Park’s Mingei International Museum with an invigorating program of chamber music by lesser-known composers.

Sunday’s concert, titled “Mosaics,” featured a diverse but focused set of chamber music miniatures drawn from the 20th and 21st centuries, including works by composer Stefan Cwik.

Mosaics, Camarada’s chamber concert Sunday at the Mingei Museum, featured both the music and presence of San Francisco-based composer Stefan Cwik.

Chamber music group honors Uruguayan musician Raul Jaurena, who helped conceive the project but lost his life to the coronavirus.

Upcoming San Diego concerts include Camarada’s Friday Stevie Wonder tribute, two Gilbert Castellanos-led jazz series and a Mt. Joy and a Trampled By Turtles double-header.

The ensemble Camarada is the realization of flutist Beth Ross-Buckley, who co-founded the ensemble 26 years ago and serves as Camarada’s co-artistic director.

Sunday’s Camarada concert at Bread and Salt in Barrio Logan brought the local music scene one step closer back to the traditional mores of music performance.
