Executive Director Letter

2019-20 Season Welcome

Dear Camarada Friends,

25 years….I am taking a pause to let that sink in and feel the tidal wave of gratitude for our musical community in San Diego—thank you with all of my heart. It has been my pleasure and an amazing journey to bring stellar chamber music experiences to all of you.

It seems I have always been a creator of experiences in some fashion. My parents set the example of connecting people and hosting events for me from an early age—and I grew up fostering a passion for building community through music.

In high school I organized all of my girlfriends into a choral octet. I picked the music, rehearsed them, accompanied them on piano and found “gigs” for our performances. The truth is my inspiration to form this ensemble in the beginning was purely to get out of band rehearsal! I couldn’t bear the slow pace or the conductor! In the end, we had a blast—some performances better than others—and it cemented our lifelong friendships.

As I look forward to Camarada’s 25th season, I am in awe of the incredible line-up of musicians and composers. As I have mentioned before, Co-Artistic Director Dana Burnett and I dream up these concerts by starting with one piece of music or a theme—and then follow the thread and continue to shape the programs until they feel just right. Dana and I both love this process—it is where the magic begins. Our goal is to create experiences that offer an oasis in your busy world, connection to your community and a continuing celebration and education of culture from around the world.

Our 25th Anniversary Season is more exciting than ever! All season long we will celebrate with special events, new programming and guest artists. Stay tuned!

In deep gratitude,

Beth Ross Buckley
