MINGLE CONCERT SERIES The Sound of Color

April 26, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Experience the bountiful hues of flute, saxophone and piano in this program dedicated to the prisms of sound and color.  Alexander Scriabin’s mesmerizing Etude in C# minor highlights his obsession with the color of sound.  Scriabin composed in a “counterpoint of light” – he heard sound as literal color, which is known as synesthesia.  Alto in Violet, a Homage to Jimi Hendrix’s music for solo saxophone, electrifies this program by illuminating a bit of purple haze to our prism. Rounding out the colorful music is Russell Peterson’s high-charged Trio which incorporates jazz & classical + Pierre Sancan’s enchanting Sonatine for flute and piano and Charles Koechlin’s Epitaph for Jean Harlow is also featured reflecting his fascination for Hollywood and film.
